DESENZANO DEL GARDA
(“Decentianum”) Brescia
prov., Lombardy, Italy.
A Roman villa of the
mid 4th c. A.D. was found here, its principal rooms arranged on a single axis. An octagonal vestibule, a peristyle, a forceps-shaped atrium, a square hall with
apses on three sides, and a nymphaeum are included. On
the side are other rooms for residential purposes and
an annex. All the rooms have polychrome mosaic pavements. Especially notable are scenes of hunting and fishing and the scene of the Good Shepherd. A beautiful cup of beveled glass was found in the villa. Nearby is
a basilica and another large private building with a bath area.
